The deadline for the Awards nomination is two weeks away on 4th April 2022, and the BMCC is inviting suitable organisations to submit their nominations. An eventful week for the BMCC at the end of March!
 
As we approach the end of Q1 for 2022, the BMCC is organising three (3) distinguished events to close the month of March:

BMCC Climate Action Series will be held on 23rd March at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. The event is another progressive step from the Malaysia Climate Action Week (MCAW), organised by the Chamber in October 2021, to raise awareness and support Malaysian businesses in achieving their respective climate commitments.

BMCC Government Dialogue Series will be held on 30th March via a webinar entitled "Covid-19: Two Years On". The webinar will feature Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Director General of Health Malaysia to share on the lessons learnt in dealing with the virus and the upcoming outlook for the country in the endemic phase.

Empowering Women in STEM will be held on 31st March at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The event will be in a fireside chat theme, where esteemed speakers of inspiring women leaders look to share their respective success stories, overcoming the barriers, contribution as well as perception of women in STEM and the way forward.

Member Engagement | Memorandum of Agreement between BAE Systems and University of Nottingham Malaysia
The BMCC was proud to witness the partnership signing between two of our Sterling Members, BAE Systems Digital Intelligence and the University of Nottingham Malaysia to examine how unsupervised machine learning can be used in the discovery of previously undefined risk, known as "missed risk" in the context of financial crime.

"By partnering with the University of Nottingham Malaysia, academia and analysts will work side by side to push the boundaries of machine learning for enhanced AML solutions." said Martin Barber, VP, People & Capabilities for BAE Systems Digital Intelligence.

“This agreement will allow us to expand our understanding and insight on unsupervised machine learning and apply it to realistic financial crime dataset to form an initial assessment.” said Dr. Chen Zhi Yuan, Associate Professor, Head of School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham Malaysia.

Member Engagement | Attending MST Golf Arena Event
The BMCC would like to congratulate MST Golf with the opening of MST Golf Arena, the 40,000 sqft of entertainment, food and retail which in turn making it Southeast Asian's largest indoor golf facility. Officially launched in February and located at The Gardens Mall in Mid Valley City, the BMCC team were invited to personally experience the fanfare first hand.

The Chamber was represented by Jennifer Lopez, Chief Executive Officer & Roufizah Razali, Senior Manager, Membership & Strategic Partnerships and were hosted by Paul Gibbons, Managing Director of Frasers Group Asia.
 
Member Engagement | Beyond Expatriate Advisory (MM2H) Sdn Bhd
As part of the BMCC's continuous efforts to constantly engage with our members - Jennifer Lopez, Chief Executive Officer of BMCC held an engagement sit down with representatives of Beyond Expatriate Advisory (MM2H) Sdn Bhd - Amnah Shaari, Chief Executive Officer alongside Harvinder Kaur, Head of International Partnership.

The engagement revolved around discussing of future collaboration opportunities as well as sharing of the Chamber's upcoming events and added-value services.

MITI | Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP)
The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement has come into force for Malaysia on 18th March, paving the way for the country to integrate into the world’s largest free trade agreement (FTA). It will immensely open a new window of opportunities for trade and investments, fortifying connectivity and deepening regional economic integration, which will further accelerate the region’s economic recovery.

MIDA | Malaysia’s Approved Investment Continues to Soar to Greater Heights in 2021
Despite the challenges faced by the Malaysian economy due to the prolonged pandemic, Malaysia remained an attractive investment destination. This was reflected in the Malaysia Investment Performance 2021 Report released by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) during their recent Annual Media Conference (AMC) event.

MIDA attracted RM306.5 billion of approved investments in the manufacturing, services and primary sectors, which is an astounding increase of 83.1 per cent in 2021 compared to performance in 2020. More information on the Malaysia Investment Performance 2021 report can be found at www.mida.gov.my

Skrine | Rights & Liabilities under the Malaysian Carriage of Goods by Sea Regime – A Sea Change?
The changes to the Malaysian Carriage of Goods by Sea Act 1950 (COGSA) came into effect on 15 July 2021. The new legal regime applies the Hague-Visby Rules while adapting provisions which are similar to the Australian Carriage of Goods by Sea Act. How will these changes affect the rights and liabilities of shippers and carriers in shipment of goods from Malaysia?
