BMCC Continues Public-Private Collaboration with JPA on the 23rd Management Development Programme |
On 14 October 2022, the Public Services Department Malaysia, or Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (JPA), hosted an appreciation dinner to conclude the 23rd JPA-BMCC Management Development Programme at DoubleTree by Hilton Lakeside Putrajaya. This year's programme started from 23 August to 5 October.
First started in 1983, this programme was conceptualised to provide senior government officials with private sector experience including the understanding of corporate governance systems and ways of doing business in global multinationals as well as to give exposure to the latest trends within industries such as digitalisation and sustainability.
This year, BMCC, together with 8 of our members – ACCA, Arup, BP, International SOS, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Smith & Nephew, Tony Gee & Partners and University of Nottingham – hosted 15 officers from various ministries and departments including Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Human Resources, amongst others.
The 44-day programme included a 2-week placement in the UK companies with operations in Malaysia, as well as another 2 weeks placement in the UK offices. This provided an important platform to encourage public-private collaborations, and to encourage learning and understanding between both sectors. It was increasingly important in a world where collaborations and partnerships were seen as an important key to unlock the potential of both governments and the private sector, especially in driving the sustainable development goals for a better future. |
While the main objectives of the programme were to expose the participants to the private sector, BMCC, with the support from our member London Tea Exchange, also organised visits to the City of London Corporation, Barking and Dagenham Borough, as well as the Civil Service College London to further understand the public sector in the UK. We would like to thank our members ACCA Global, EcoWorld International, London Tea Exchange, Sime Darby Property (Battersea Power Station) and Ricardo Technical Centre for hosting the delegation at their offices during the week-long business visit. A special appreciation also goes to the British Malaysian Society (BMS) led by Mei Sim Lai OBE DL, Chair of BMS for organising an engaging forum on “Strengthening UK-Malaysia Ties through Public Private Collaborations” attended by more than 70 people.
As part of the programme, the participants, together with their host companies identified project papers, which included proposals of public-private collaborative initiatives as well as recommendations based on learnings from the private companies or vice versa.
We thank the Public Services Department Malaysia for this important collaboration to strengthen public-private sector engagement with the aim to develop a better understanding of challenges and opportunities, both within the public and private sectors, as well as develop partnerships between public and private sectors, which are key to achieving the sustainable growth for the nation. Once again, our gratitude goes out to all our members who were involved and were instrumental in making this programme a huge success! |

Malaysians Urged to Wear Mask as Country Facing Small COVID-19 Wave |
Malaysia is experiencing a small wave of COVID-19 infections, after an increase in positive case numbers, said caretaker Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin. Given the current situation, Khairy highly recommends the public to put on their mask even though it remains voluntary. He said between October 23 and 29, new infection cases increased by 16.5% to 16,917 cases from the previous week’s 14,255 cases. Khairy said while the increase in new cases was found to have been driven by the Omicron variant, the ministry suspected the catalyst to be the XBB sub-variant. |
