BMCC Meeting with YB Liew Chin Tong,
the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry.
It was a great pleasure for the BMCC to meet with YB Liew Chin Tong, the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry recently. The BMCC representatives invited to the meeting were members who are key British investors, representing sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, education, and professional services. The BMCC group was led by BMCC’s CEO, Jennifer Lopez.

It was a productive meeting where ideas and opinions were exchanged to keep Malaysia at the forefront of regional investment. The topic of ESG was also touched upon, where the meeting discussed how government and businesses can work together to hasten Malaysia's progress towards becoming a carbon-neutral country. Our members also took the chance to share their aspirations and current challenges faced in their respective industries.

We would like to express our gratitude to the YB Deputy Minister and the senior officials from MITI for taking the time to engage with the Chamber.

We look forward to continuing our engagement with the government for the interest of our members and industry. The Chamber welcomes feedback and recommendations that we can facilitate and engage with the relevant government ministries and agencies through our industry advocacy platform. If there are any comments, please email daniel@bmcc.org.my.

All immigration services and processes will soon be brought back under the department’s management by 2025, including those currently handled by third parties like MY E.G. Services Bhd (MyEG). Immigration Director-General Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said this would be through the implementation of the national integrated immigration system (NIISe), which will replace all immigration transactions, including visa, work permit and passport applications and renewals, as well as checks at airports and ports. The NIISe will involve the integration of databases of more than 20 agencies in the country, including the police and the national registration department (JPN). He added that it would be easier to apply for passports, with the integrated database allowing the department to verify any information with the JPN.
