The Dawn of a New Era
The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla
image
This week, we are thrilled to share highlights from the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla of the United Kingdom. This historic event took place on Saturday, 6 May at Westminster Abbey in London, England. This was the first Coronation Service in almost 70 years!

For the last nine centuries, the Coronation ceremony has taken place at Westminster Abbey, the Royal church for the Palace of Westminster. Their Majesties arrived at Westminster Abbey in a procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The King’s Procession’.

The ceremony was a magnificent display of British tradition and pageantry. King Charles III, wearing the Royal Robes and holding the Sceptre and Orb, took the oath of allegiance and was anointed with holy oil by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Queen Consort Camilla, wearing a stunning dress designed by British designer Catherine Walker, was crowned with the St. Edward's Crown and presented with the Royal Ring.

Attended by numerous dignitaries and members of the royal family, the coronation was also attended by Malaysia's Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Prior to the coronation, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong paid a courtesy call on King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.

During the 40-minute courtesy call, King Charles III and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong discussed, among others, bilateral relations between Malaysia and the UK, as well as environmental issues and the Malaysia-owned Battersea Power Station in London.

“The courtesy call by the Agong and Raja Permaisuri reflects the closeness of His Majesty with King Charles III as they have been friends for more than four decades, which started with them playing polo together during their teens at various international tournaments. This was the second meeting between Al-Sultan Abdullah and King Charles III this year - reflecting the close relationship between Malaysia and the UK.“
Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin
Comptroller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara

The newly crowned King and Queen Consort have a long history of service to the United Kingdom, and this coronation marks the beginning of a new chapter in their reign. King Charles III has already begun to make his mark as a passionate advocate for environmental sustainability and social justice, while Queen Consort Camilla, who has been by his side throughout their long courtship and marriage, is deeply committed to charitable causes and has been a patron of numerous organisations.

As we welcome this new era for the British monarchy, we wish King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla all the best as they lead the UK with grace and wisdom.

Long live The King!

Quick Fun Facts About The King

image
In 2017, the former Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall made their maiden visit to Malaysia to commemorate the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

Located in the heart of South-East Asia, Malaysia is the UK's second-largest trading partner in ASEAN.enn

King Charles III is a beacon of hope. His Majesty has spoken out about climate and environmental concerns for the last 50 years and is seen by some as a leading climate advocate, who supports charities and campaigns with global significance.

He’s expressed sympathy for Extinction Rebellion, given a speech to the Countryside Steering Committee for Wales warning against the environmental cost of oil pollution and plastic waste when he was just 21, co-authored a children's book on climate change, and spoken from the heart on environmental concerns at global conferences with world leaders.

Since 1530, English and British monarchs have been deemed “Defender of the Faith” during their coronations— a promise to uphold the Church of England. King Charles III has hinted that he might veer away from a single-religion view.

He said in a 1994 interview that he’d prefer to be “Defender of Faith” over “Defender of the Faith.” He’s studied the Koran and Judaism in-depth, attended Catholic Masses and made a point of visiting Christian, Sikh, Muslim, and Hindu communities during official visits.

Like his great-great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, King Charles III is an avid artist. His Majesty prefers watercolours and paints scenes of natural beauty, like mountains and lakes.

Though His Majesty describes himself as an "enthusiastic amateur," he is an honorary member of the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society, and his paintings have sold for more than US$2 million.

As Prince of Wales, His Majesty was patron or president of more than 400 organisations. He supported everything from horticulture and hospices to rugby clubs and orchestras.

The original Hotel Equatorial was established in 1973 and quickly gained its reputation as a premier five-star destination. However, in 2012, the hotel was closed down for redevelopment, and in March 2019, EQ was opened to the public, promising to offer a bigger, better, and all-new successor.

The 52-storey tower stands tall in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle and is the centrepiece of Equatorial Plaza. In our latest blog, Steve Cooper, Informed’s Product Director, explores how data unification techniques and the innovative application of AI-based technology are supporting planning organisations like NatureScot to make better, more timely, and informed decisions in half of the time it has traditionally taken.
