Malaysia is Diving into Green Hydrogen Exploring The Nation's Potential As A Hydrogen Exporter By 2027 |
|
In a resolute stride towards advancing Malaysia's eco-friendly mobility aspirations, the government is fully committed to exploring the promising horizon of green hydrogen as a viable alternative fuel.
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the Minister of National Resources, Environment, and Climate Change (NRECC), unveiled an inspiring collaboration between the government and key utilities such as Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). This collaboration is poised to uncover the potential of harnessing this innovative energy carrier, while also unraveling its profound economic implications.
“We aim to unlock the hydrogen economy through the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR) that are targeted to be rolled out later this year" Nik Nazmi affirmed.
These comprehensive roadmaps aim to facilitate robust investment inflow into hydrogen production. Ultimately, Malaysia envisions positioning itself as a pivotal global exporter of green hydrogen by 2027. The power of collaboration is becoming increasingly evident, as it becomes a driving force for fostering domestic, regional, and international transitions.
Inaugurating the Energy Transition Conference, Nik Nazmi emphasised the imperative of a unified effort involving diverse sectors to tackle the challenges of energy transition and climate change. He also mentioned that it is their hope that the corporate realm and civil society will steadfastly prioritise sustainability.
On the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA),he detailed that heavy electricity consumers will be mandated to conduct energy audits, with heightened stipulations for larger buildings. Commenting on the consequential impact of tariff reform, he noted that these consumers have proactively embarked on energy-saving initiatives, embracing solar energy storage and energy-efficient practices.
The journey to sustainable energy and environmental resilience requires concerted actions from all quarters. The government is leading the way, fostering collaborative innovation and emphasising sustainability across the spectrum of national progress. |
