GROUNDBREAKING DEVELOPMENT TO SHAPE MALAYSIA'S ECONOMIC LANDSCAPE |
|
A groundbreaking development is set to shape Malaysia's economic landscape for years to come! On 1 September 2023, Malaysia's Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially introduced the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030)at the Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry (MITI). |
|
NIMP 2030 is the fourth iteration of the Industrial Master Plan (IMP), this time around, it brings a fresh perspective with its mission-based approach. This forward-looking plan aims to revolutionise Malaysia's manufacturing sector by promoting widespread growth aligned with the vision and objectives of the MADANI Economy. |
|
|
The new plan will focus on enhancing economic complexity, strengthening domestic industrial connections, and elevating Malaysian industries within the global value chain, all with the goal of building a resilient industrial base for long-term, sustainable growth.
"The development of this industrial masterplan is essential to generate benefits for various stakeholders, including enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs, creating higher-paying, higher-quality jobs for Malaysians, and rebuilding Malaysia's middle class," noted The Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz.
NIMP 2030's six key goals: - Increasing economic complexity
- Creating high-value job opportunities
- Strengthening domestic linkages
- Developing new and existing clusters
- Improving inclusivity
- Enhancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices.
The expected outcomes include economic diversification, enhanced global competitiveness by exporting more complex products, and higher wages for employees in the manufacturing sector.
The goal will be supported by its missions, enablers, strategies, and action plans. |
|
Nine Mission-based Projects (MBPs) have been designated as catalytic projects to initiate the implementation of the masterplan. MBP champions have also been selected to ensure they possess the stature to mobilise the entire industry and the capacity to scale up, to create impactful spillovers, particularly via the inclusion of SMEs. Furthermore, MITI will work closely with the industry to identify additional MBPs during the NIMP's implementation phase.
NIMP 2030 is committed to strengthening SMEs by enhancing their capacity to engage in higher-value opportunities, adopting technology to boost productivity, and reducing reliance on low-skilled labour. The plan will also enhance SMEs' ESG capabilities, ensuring their continued participation in ESG-compliant multinational corporation vendor ecosystems and access to ESG-sensitive export markets, while also contributing to the country's sustainability goals.
The implementation of NIMP 2030 will follow a comprehensive whole-of-nation approach, supported by robust governance structures and monitoring mechanisms. The National NIMP 2030 Council, chaired by the Prime Minister, will oversee this nationwide effort.
To fund these action plans, the Government has allocated a total of RM8.2 billion, leading to the establishment of two new funds: the NIMP Industrial Development Fund and the NIMP Strategic Co-Investment Fund. Additional incentives will be unveiled during Budget 2024.
The BMCC congratulates Malaysia on the launch of NIMP 2030. We are committed to collaborating closely to ensure the plan's success, fostering business connections, and contributing to sustainable growth.
