Malaysia Joins CPTPP Parties in Ratifying UK's Accession |
|
Dear Subscriber,
On September 17 2024, Malaysia officially ratified the Accession Protocol for the United Kingdom to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). |
|
|
This move aligns Malaysia with six other parties—Japan, Singapore, Chile, New Zealand, Vietnam, and Peru—that have completed their domestic ratification processes. The agreement is expected to come into force by the end of 2024, providing the UK and all ratifying members with expanded trade benefits.
The Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz, expressed optimism about the benefits of Malaysian exports to the UK, whose economy exceeded USD 4 trillion in 2023.
He emphasised that Malaysia's participation in the CPTPP has enhanced the country's competitiveness, strengthened investor confidence, and integrated Malaysian exporters more deeply into the global supply chain.

Brunei's strategic location, political stability, and business-friendly policies make it an attractive market for international partnerships, particularly with the United Kingdom.
The UK's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will mark the first Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the UK and Brunei. This will unlock trade benefits for both countries in a wide range of business sectors.
