Podcast Interview with Natalie Black, Her Majesty's Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific

After the UK's exit from the EU on the 31st of January, the race is on for the island nation to renegotiate its trade relationships with countries around the world. With Covid-19 now throwing its shadow across the global economy, BFM discusses the implications of Brexit, regional trade ties, and potential avenues of bilateral cooperation, with Natalie Black, Her Majesty's Trade Commissioner for the Asia Pacific region.

In this Breakfast Grille presented by BFM's Lyn Mak, Natalie Black shares current insights on UK exporter sentiments to Malaysia, the growth sectors including e-commerce, technology, education and the overall bilateral relations between our two nations. Natalie also speaks of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce's role in managing increased demand for information and services during and after the Malaysian Movement Control Order as well the strong relationship it shares with the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur in driving economic recovery.

The Who, What and How of Mediation: Negotiated Settlements for COVID-19 Disputes (Webinar, 21 July)

Arising from COVID-19, there has been multitude of disputes in all sectors resulting from supply chain disruptions to lockdown financial woes. Most businesses cannot afford the time and money of formal dispute resolution processes through the court, arbitration and adjudication. Amicable settlements are not always achievable. Mediation may be that in-between option that may be the way to unlock the door to achieving negotiated settlements. Topic of discussions will include:
  • What is mediation and the practicalities of deploying it effectively to resolve disputes?
  • What takes place at mediation?
  • Isn't arbitration and adjudication supposed to be quick and cheap? And court being a public service?
  • Who can you turn to when you need help?

National Trade Blueprint: Exporters and Non-Exporters Survey

The National Trade Blueprint aims to enhance Malaysia's trade competitiveness globally, identify challenges in growing exports, benchmark against other countries and recommends action plans. Key findings from this study will assist the government in developing policies and programmes to effectively address the issues and challenges faced by various stakeholders in ensuring a sustainable growth of Malaysia's export for 2021-2025.
