Malaysia imposes 14 day Movement Control Order beginning 12.01am on Wednesday, 13 January until Tuesday, 26 January 2021

A 14-day lockdown (MCO) will be imposed in six states - Penang, Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malacca, Johor and Sabah - starting 13 January, to curb a surge in COVID-19 cases. 

CMCO will be imposed in Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan. 

RMCO will be imposed in Perlis and Sarawak.

Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) outlines six strategic focuses to drive 2021 direction

The Ministry of Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) on 7 January 2021 outlined six strategic focuses to drive the ministry’s direction this year, including Empowering the Education Digitalisation Agenda. 

Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad urged all higher education institutions (IPT) to adjust their existing learning modules and assessment methods to suit the digital environment, and increase the capacity of their teaching staff, particularly in handling technology to achieve education digitalisation objectives, especially as 1.2 million students, including 130,000 international students could not participate in normal teaching and learning sessions during the pandemic period. 

The other five strategic focuses were Enhancing Strategic Collaboration Network, Strengthening Graduates Marketability, Driving Community Well-being, Promoting Institutional Excellence and Enlivening the Spirit of #KPTPrihatin.

One Stop Centre (OSC) for Business Travellers

Effective 2 October 2020, a One Stop Centre (OSC) has been set up by the Malaysian Government to ease the movement of business travellers by expediting the approval of their entry to do business in Malaysia.

The One Stop Centre is represented by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (IMI) to ensure the legitimacy and health status of business travellers before they enter into Malaysia.

An OSC Committee has been established to evaluate and approve two types of applications, namely Long Term Business Travellers and Short Term Business Travellers.

Race to Zero Campaign

The BMCC is working with the British High Commission, Kuala Lumpur to encourage our members to commit to reaching Net Zero by 2050 by joining the RACE TO ZERO CAMPAIGN, in the run-up to the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention of Climate Change (COP26) to be jointly hosted by the UK and Italy in Glasgow in November.
