1. National Palace Media Release on the Declaration of State of Emergency

A media statement by the National Palace was issued today on His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's consent for the Declaration of Emergency Proclamation as a proactive measure to curb the symptoms of the COVID-19 epidemic.

His Majesty also consents to the period of emergency implementation until 1 August 2021 or until an earlier date if the daily COVID-19 positive case figures can be controlled and lowered effectively.


2. Prime Minister’s Speech on the Declaration of State of Emergency

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said in a special address telecast live today that he was granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday, to present advice from Cabinet ministers to declare a state of emergency in light of the current pandemic situation.

He clarified that the state of emergency proclaimed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is not a military coup and assured that curfew will not be enforced. The civilian government will continue to function. 

The Prime Minister also announced that with the declaration of a state emergency until 1 August 2021, there would be no by-elections or state election or general election held within the period.


3. Ministry of International Trade and Investment (MITI)

In today's media release by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry , it was stated that five essential economic sectors encompassing 37 related activities in six states are allowed to operate during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

As of 10 January 2021, the proposed sectors cover the manufacturing sector under the oversight of the ministry; construction; services; trade and distribution; and, plantations and commodities under the jurisdiction of other ministries and agencies.

Companies that have registered with the ministry's Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) database do not need to re-register to operate during the MCO period but are required to download the notification of registration confirmation from 3pm today.

Manufacturing companies in essential services that have not registered with CIMS can do so hereThe notification of registration confirmation can be downloaded by the company upon completion of registration.





4. Ministry of Education (MOE)

THe Ministry of Education announced today that classes will resume on 20 January 2021.

Both primary and secondary students who are not facing any major examinations will have online classes.

Students who will be sitting for major exams in the 2020 and 2021 session, namely Form Five and Form Six students, will be allowed to attend physical classes in states under MCO, CMCO and RMCO.

International and private schools are allowed to hold physical classes for students facing major examinations in all MCO, CMCO and RMCO areas.
