Rev. Msgr. Christopher H. Nalty is a priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans currently serving as Pastor of Good Shepherd Parish in Uptown New Orleans. Msgr. Nalty is a native New Orleanian and a graduate of Jesuit High School, magna cum laude. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1984 where he received a Bachelor of English in the Arts and Letters Program for Administrators. After graduation, Msgr. Nalty studied at Georgetown University where he received a law degree and an MBA in 1988. He subsequently returned to New Orleans where he practiced law for six years, three of which with the Jones, Walker Law Firm. During that time, he was involved in a wide variety of civic, charitable and political activities.

In 1994 Msgr. Nalty left the practice of law and began studies for the diocesan priesthood at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC under the sponsorship of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. From 1995 to 2000, Father Nalty attended the Pontifical North American College in Rome, and received degrees in sacred theology and canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University, both magna cum laude. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1999, and served in the Archdiocese as an associate pastor and a defender of the bond on the Metropolitan Tribunal from 2000 until 2003.

In 2003 Msgr. Nalty was asked to serve at the Holy See (Vatican) as an official of the Congregation for the Clergy, which he did until 2008. During that time he served as a Chaplain to the Missionaries of Charity and as visiting professor of theology at Christendom College in Rome. He was also a certified guide to the Vatican Necropolis under the Basilica of St. Peter. In 2007, he was named a Chaplain to His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI.

In 2008, Msgr. Nalty completed his Vatican assignment and returned to New Orleans to be pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, and he currently the Chairman of the Canon Law Department at Notre Dame Seminary. Nalty has been published in various journals and periodicals writing on civil law, theology, canon law and Church history. He has spoken at a number of national and international conferences, and has honorary degrees from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans and Shenyang University in Liaoning Province, China. Msg. Nalty currently serves as a Chaplain to the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta, Legatus and the Partons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, a board member of the Willwoods Community and the Catholic Foundation. He is currently a candidate for a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University. Msgr. Nalty is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, and cooking; he is also a PADI Master Scuba Diver.
