I am a motivated, enthusiastic, and hard-working individual. I enjoy learning new skills as well as sharing my knowledge with others. When not busy learning or working, I like to watch movies, explore the outdoors, and read. In addition to my professional work life, I love to travel, visit new places, organise events, bake, and spend time with my family. There is nothing better than seeing a great piece of history (in various forms) or literature in one's mind.
I have the best job on earth! I prepare fund-raising documents and manage the Department of Institutional Advancement’s (DIA) communication platforms.
I write and tailor fund-raising documents for project leaders and academics from the nine faculties at the University. These documents include proposals, letters of inquiry, application forms and sponsorship propositions. As the only proposal consultant at UP, I prepare submissions for foundations, CSI and government agencies.
I am often roped in the beginning phases to facilitate the project development among academics through a Log Frame Analysis. I also use this technique to determine the fund-ability of a project.
I am the editor of the DIA’s blog. This blog targets our project leaders. Here I publish calls for proposals, entries on the theory of fund-raising and departmental news. The blog has an average hit rate of 1,990 bi-weekly. Most of our readers (51%) are from the University, but we often receive comments from other fund-raisers. In fact, this blog has become a tool of forging partnerships with the communities surrounding our projects.
• I wrote the proposals that secured R28 million to advance nursing scholarship at the University of Pretoria and the University of Limpopo (Medunsa).
• I conceptualised and initiated a partnership between the Vision 2020 Eye Care Clinic in Pretoria West and a national optometry company to implement a sustainability plan for the clinic. We will never need to raise funds for the clinic again, thanks to this strategic partnership.
• In 2011 I had a success ratio of 1:2, i.e. for every two proposals I write one is successful!
• I was invited to present a workshop on proposal writing and portfolio target setting for Inyathelo. I developed the course material, presented the workshop and had a great time. This is an experience I will pursue in the future!
A professional skilled in research and innovation management. Experienced in overseeing research awards and postgraduate (Masters and Doctoral) scholarships pre- and post-award administration, contract and financial management processes.
