Do you feel confused at where you are right now?
Are you looking for meaning in your career?
Would you like to discover your purpose in life?
We are pleased to invite you all to join us on 6 January (Saturday) afternoon for a workshop presented by Dr Marty Schmidt on “In Search of a More Meaningful Life: Introducing the Enneagram”.
See below the workshop description:
Over the temple of Delphi in ancient Greece reads the famous advice, “Know thyself.” Millenia later this most crucial task to know oneself is a challenge for each of us. I often tell my students the main task of adolescence is discovering your identity. I also keep in touch with alumni, and what I have come to see is that there is an important link between their identity and job satisfaction. If you are in a job that does not support or develop your true self, it is difficult to feel fulfilled. This is why I, along with several of my former HKIS students, are excited to introduce
the Enneagram, a personality typing tool, that will help you learn more about your identity – and encourage you to explore whether your current job is a right fit for you – and offer tips how to become a healthier version of yourself. Intriguingly, the Enneagram is not only a psychological tool that will help you find yourself, but also a spiritual tool that will assist you in learning how to also let go of yourself, which all the spiritual traditions say is vital for becoming who you are meant to be.
On January 6 2018, I will lead a workshop in helping each of you learn about the Enneagram and discover more about your personality. I will begin with some introductory remarks, but most of the session will involve you reading both books (that I will bring) and online materials about your type. We will offer a second follow-up class in order to discuss more about your type and apply various practices to help you develop or even help you let go of your aspects of your type, which will support your spiritual growth as well. In fact, I have written a blog entry for my students that has many of these materials as links, so you can get started now, if you like.
Besides supporting your personal growth, the alumni and I are also offering this program as a fundraiser for a cause we have been involved in collectively for a dozen years, the Ember Girls Scholarship Program in China. We are asking that each of you contribute
$1000HKD for this mini-course, all of which will support the education of girls in China through our Ember scholarship program. (If you would like to support one girl’s full year of schooling, the cost is $4000 HKD.) We will tell you more about this program on January 6.
Cost: HKD 1,000 (all proceeds go towards supporting scholarships for underprivileged students in rural areas in China. We are hoping to support 5 scholarships collectively as a group through this workshop. To learn more, please visit
