Belinda Carreira
Director of SustainablednaBelinda Carreira is an executive with three decades of experience in Audit, Finance, Banking, Strategy Consulting and ESG/Sustainability. Specialist in developing sustainability strategies for global clients across all sectors.
Belinda founded #SustainableSA in 2019 which is a project now sponsored by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) that provides regular updates on South Africa’s status for achieving each SDG, education, highlights of key actions needed to be taken and relevant tips and tools for reporting.
Before co-founding SustainableDNA, Belinda set up and established the Sustainability Advisory business at Emergent Africa. Belinda won the SAICA Chairman’s Difference Makers Award for Sustainability in 2022.

Katharina Gihring
Executive member African Circular Economy NetworkKatharina Gihring is an executive member of the African Circular Economy Network (ACEN) and has a key role in further operationalising ACEN to grow the success of the network. She coordinates and manages a multitude of projects such as Just2CE as well as Circular South Africa. Her background is in ecology, environmental management, capacitation and systems thinking with a MSc in Environmental Management (UJ - South Africa). She was also part of the core team implementing World Circular Economy Forum 2022. In Katharina’s previous work at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) she successfully tendered and implemented larger (research) projects such as merSETA VIRO-VENT Skills Innovation Challenge to design and manufacture a ventilator alongside student capacitation. She largely contributed to the uptake of the circular economy at UJ’s Technology Station, which currently supports the development of the universities strategy and has led to UJ becoming a supporting member of the SA Plastics Pact. Her main focus is on the circular economy and how this concept can be implemented in a just-way. Her experience ranges from multidisciplinary and mix-method research, research coordination, project management, event coordination, action plan development to workshop and educational facilitator. Nonkululeko Grootboom
Lecturer at University of PretoriaNonkululeko Grootboom is an experienced practitioner and academic employed as a lecturer in Interior Architecture at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She holds a bachelors degree in Architecture and a Professional Masters degree in Interior Architecture from the University of Pretoria. Founder of Global Carbon Exchange (GCX)Kevin James is a corporate sustainability adviser and climate change thought leader with over two decades of experience guiding the most complex companies in Australia, South Africa and beyond on their sustainability journeys. He has deep experience in developing sustainability solutions and green, low carbon projects to address the most pressing climate-related issues of our day. Dr. Amel Makhlouf

African Circular Business AllianceDr Gamuchirai Mutezo is the founder of Madam Waste, an urban energy planning firm based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Services offered span across urban energy planning, organic waste management and decentralised clean energy using anaerobic digestion. Using principles of circular economy, Madam Waste endeavours to constantly view waste not in its traditional sense of a disposable material, but as a resource for other activities. She is also a Post Doctoral Fellow at the Centre for Ecological Intelligence (University of Johannesburg) focusing on agro-ecological waste management and circular economy.
Dr Mutezo has over 12 years’ work experience underpinned by entrepreneurship, renewable energy, applied research and development, all with a keen focus on decentralising energy access in African cities using anaerobic digestion. She holds a B. Town and Regional Planning (University of Pretoria), an MPhil Energy Poverty and Development (University of Cape Town), Project Management Certificate (University of South Africa) and a DPhil in Urban Biogas and Circular Economy (University of the Witwatersrand). Linus Naik
Head of ESG and sustainability at Dont Waste groupLinus an environmentalist at heart and in practice. He holds a doctorate in Chemical Engineering, which focused on technology deployment for sustainable urban development through waste to energy solutions. Dr Pippa Notten
Director and Principal consultant of The green houseDR PIPPA NOTTEN is a director and principal consultant at The Green House, a director of TGH Think Space NPC, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town, associated with the Environmental Process and Systems Engineering Group in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Pippa has an undergraduate and PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town.
Pippa is an expert life cycle assessment (LCA) practitioner, with over 20 years of experience, most recently in the food, retail, packaging and consumer goods sectors. Recent consulting work with UNEP’s Economy Division looking at a life cycle approach to addressing single-use plastics pollution has included outputs on a systemic approach to addressing marine plastics, advancing circularity in textiles, and alternatives to single-use plastic products.
Pippa is active in the development and promotion of life cycle assessment in South African. Her collaborations with UCT include convening an annual LCA course.
Bernd Oellermann
Senior Programme Manager at CSIRBernd is senior programme manager at the NCPC-SA, heading up the eco-industrial parks programme and industrialization work, building on work he started in industrial parks and SEZs previously. He introduced the national eco-industrial park programme while still in the dtic to support the Just Transition for industry to a circular economy and currently continues to drive this in close collaboration with the dtic and numerous other stakeholders.
His areas of expertise cover management consulting, project and programme management, stakeholder management, policy, strategy, planning and sustainability. He has worked in diverse fields that include sustainable development, industrial development, renewable energy, water, health, agriculture, engineering, R&D, education and training, ICT, mining and the financial sector. DR Henry Roman
Chief Director: Sector Innovation and Green Economy. of Department of Science and InnovationHenry Roman holds a PhD in Biotechnology from Rhodes University, South Africa, specialising in the bioremediation of acid mine drainage. He has 18 years’ experience in the National System of Innovation in various roles with 11 of these at the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). Henry has led the development of two Roadmaps related to the Green Economy ambitions of South Africa, to guide research, development and innovation in the water and waste sectors.
