Q: How is the event going forward in light of the recent COVID-19 developments?

A: The hackathon will be completely online in terms of design-thinking workshops, forums, and pitching proposals.

Q: How will the design thinking workshops be carried out online?

A: The design thinking workshops will be carried out as a hybrid of large group and small group sessions over an online video conference provider. A design thinking facilitator trained by Mr Gabriel Chung from SocietyNext Foundation will host these meeting sessions.

The large group sessions will comprise of 3 teams, where the facilitator will deliver the contents of the workshop. Then the teams will separate into smaller breakout rooms/ have some time to talk by themselves to discuss how to approach the particular stage of design thinking. Afterwards, the teams will return to the large group session, where the facilitator will guide the teams in sharing their ideas and giving feedback to each other. This process will repeat throughout all the workshops, and you will be in close contact with your facilitator throughout to build upon your ideas.

Q: Can I participate with my friends and acquaintances?

A: Of course! We encourage you to form a team of 4 as you register (but remember to put your team's full names on the form!). If you would like to be paired with other talented students aside from your friends, we will try our best to form a dynamic team for you too!

Q: What will happen after the social innovation hackathon?

A: Through sponsors and our partner organisation's support, we may be able to offer opportunities to the finalists, nurturing their idea into fruition. Results will be announced around a week after proposal submissions on August 16th.
