Professor at Wageningen University

Gerard is a senior pedometrician with ISRIC – World Soil Information and a special professor in Pedometrics and Digital Soil Mapping of Wageningen University, where he teaches geostatistics and spatial uncertainty propagation. He received the Richard Webster medal of the International Union of Soil Sciences for the best body of work that advanced pedometrics in 2014 and the Peter Burrough medal of the International Spatial Accuracy Research Association in 2020. He has published over 170 journal articles and was recognised by the Web of Science Group as a Highly Cited Researcher in 2019, 2020 and 2022. Gerard is a Deputy Editor of the European Journal of Soil Science and Associate Editor of four more ISI journals.

Stephan is a lecturer in Biometry at the Dept. of Genetics at Stellenbosch University (from the 1st of April Stephan will move to the Dept. of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences at Stellenbosch University) and a PhD candidate at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. His PhD, Enhancing machine learning in digital soil mapping, is supervised by Prof Gerard Heuvelink (WU & ISRIC), Dr David Hofmeyr (SU) and Dr Laura Poggio (ISRIC). Stephan is a Thuthuka NRF grant holder as well as a member of the The Climate, Food and Farming, Global Research Alliance Development Scholarships Programme (CLIFF-GRADS).
