John Scribner
Terlato Wine GroupJohn Scribner has a law degree, and an undergrad degree in finance and accounting. After nearly ten years in private practice, he joined a client and spent the next forty years in the wine industry as a senior executive of the Terlato Wine Group, partnering in the growth of a local wholesale wine distributor into an international producer, importer, distributor, and marketer of fine wines and spirits. In that time, he was responsible for all the financial, legal and regulatory matters of the business. Additionally, he negotiated the sale of a wholesale wine distributor network, the acquisition of multiple domestic wineries, and the formation of multiple international joint ventures, including a vineyard development project in Australia, a winery joint venture in Italy, and a minority investment in a prestigious French winery, upon whose Board he sat for fifteen years. In the nine years preceding his retirement in late 2017, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of four wineries: Chimney Rock and Rutherford Hill in Napa, Alderbrook in Sonoma and Sanford in the Santa Rita Hills of Santa Barbara. There is not an aspect of the wine industry with which he is not intimately familiar. John remains a director of Terlato Wine Group and regularly consults on industry matters.
