Having earned the Certified Financial Planner® designation, I help my clients work to improve the lives of their families, businesses and the surrounding community."

Tommy's 35-year career has come full circle—beginning as a high school teacher and coach to now advising and coaching business owners and their leadership teams to achieve focus, alignment, improved execution and, ultimately, success.
Tommy spent 15 years in wealth management, first as an Investments Product Manager in Richmond, VA, with Central Fidelity Bank and then as Senior Investment Management Consultant and Second Vice President at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney located in Winston-Salem, NC. Following a successful 15 year career in banking and wealth management, in 2010, Tommy followed a calling to serve as Headmaster at Virginia Episcopal School, his alma mater.
Tommy shares: "This journey includes the 'intrepreneurship' build and launch of a new subsidiary business inside of a large corporation only to have the parent company acquired six months later. While developing survival skills, I persisted through 13 different bosses in 8 years, participated on due diligence and merger integration teams before jumping into an entrepreneurial wealth management practice in 2003. And then in 2010 came a surprise turn when I was recruited to lead a regional private boarding-day school out of the Great Recession after serving on its board of trustees for seven years. During this 10-year turn-around, my team and I led a brand transformation, market expansion, significant fundraising, oversaw $30+ million in construction projects, and a financial and cultural transformation. Ultimately, I managed my own successful exit, succession and transition. The opportunity to bring it all together to the benefit of business owners and their leadership teams inspires my work today."
Tommy now serves as President of Financial Designs in Forest, Virginia, where he focuses on coaching business owners to understand and grow the value of their business, enhance their leadership and team performance, and guide the planning for and execution of the business' continuity, succession and transition, as well as the business owner's ultimate exit to achieve their goals and dreams.
Tommy holds his M.B.A. from the Mason School of Business at The College of William & Mary; earned an Executive Leadership Certificate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia.

Jason is a 23-year veteran of the financial services industry with a strong passion for supporting the business community. With MassMutual Carolinas since 2005, Jason serves as a coach and consultant for financial advisors and recently launched the firm’s business planning division.
Through mentoring his team and supporting their clients, Jason found many people they were helping were business owners – an oversold yet underserved and vital segment of our economy. He also became the firm’s go-to resource for business succession planning, which he noticed is commonly left out by companies. As a result, Jason created the new business planning division to equip and empower owners to maximize the potential of their business and personal plans. The passion and purpose of the division are to help business owners confront one of the most significant and inevitable events they will face – the sale or transfer of business ownership. All owners exit eventually, and the earlier they plan for it, the more opportunity they create.
In addition to impacting the community, this division helps company leaders plan for a secure future and be prepared for retirement, death, disability, or other potential disruption in running their business. Jason and his team use a five-step process to create a business evaluation, continuity road map, financial plan, and an action summary. The purpose is to maximize the company’s value, make sure the company continues long after the business owner is gone, and have an exit strategy for down the road.
Born in Kentucky, Jason has been in the Charlotte region for over 30 years. He graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In his spare time, Jason enjoys golfing, traveling, staying active in his church, FINSECA, SFSP, and serving in the firm’s Hands & Feet outreach program. He resides in Waxhaw with his college sweetheart, three kids, and a rescue dog named Boone.
