PRIMARY CEMENTING OPERATIONS (PART 3)

Course Description

If successful cementing operations are not carried out during the drilling of each well, the integrity of the well is jeopardized. Effective cementing guarantees zonal isolation and hydraulic sealing. In oil and gas operations, primary cementing entails mixing and displacing a cement slurry down the casing and into the annular area between the casing/liner and wellbore. All workers employed by the operational and servicing companies should have a working knowledge of cement slurry design, cement additives, calculations, and placement methods. This course will provide an overview of oil and gas well primary cementing operations and the information necessary to understand the properties of cement, its evaluations, development of a cement program, perform calculations, execute it, and deal with difficulties that may arise during cementation. Additionally, this course will address cement additives, on-site mixing equipment, and on-site job execution.

It is ideal for drilling engineers, drilling supervisors, assistant drilling supervisors, supervisors, superintendents, Mudd Engineers, fluid superintendent, completion engineers, petroleum Engineers. PART-3: At the end of the primary cementing Part-1 course, participants will be able to know the following:


1. Volume of cement slurry required (study caliper log)

2. Number of sacks of cement Required

3. Weight of cement required in lbs required

4. Volume to displace top plug to collar (convert to pump strokes & time)

5. Downward and upward forces (Will casing float?)

6. Pressure differential prior to bumping plug

7. Volume of mix water for required density

8. Volume of additives required, quantity in drums/cans

9. Expected top of cement in annulus (Theoretical)

10. Top of cement after completion of cementation (Practical)

11. Annular velocity during displacement

12 Total Time for the entire cement job (Compare to thickening time)

13. Total drilling fluid returns

14. Casing test pressure on surface

15. Analysis of pressures to determine TOC as cement travels in annulus
