The inaugural Pacific Islands Filmfest presented by Film Fiji, which celebrates and features award-winning short films from the Pacific region. Experience the vibrant voices of the Pacific Islands at the inaugural Pacific Islands Filmfest


This powerful lineup features 10 incredible short films by indigenous filmmakers from Fiji, Hawaii, Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Guam. Get transported across the Pacific through captivating stories like:


🇫🇯 Fiji: "Sotava", "Soli Bula", "Vakaraitaka" & "Weaving the Streets"

🌺 Hawaii: "E Mālama Pono, Willy Boy"

🌴 Marshall Islands: "IN EXILE"

🌊 Solomon Islands: "KOKOLO THABA"

🌴 Guam: "Tradewinds", "I MATAI (The Dead)"


With former NRL legend Petero Civoniceva as ambassador in attendance, don't miss this rare celebration of Pacific cinema's rising talents and indigenous narratives! Live music provided local Pacific Island musicians by Chris Cobb, John Soqeta, and Andrea Kirwin!

There's plenty of seating available so no need to bring chairs - just come as you are! It's first-come, first-served with tons of fun photo ops, so get there early, door open at 5pm VIP ticket holders can roam the whole venue and mingle with GA guests. The VIP area is also a prime spot to network with our sponsors Screen Queensland, local councils, and Community Bank Sunshine Coast. The event will start promptly at 6pm.

Showdown Showcase

The Showdown Showcase, premiering the six winning short films, locally-produced by the Sunny Coast Showdown team and presented by Bendigo Bank Community Bank, as they compete for the festival’s prize gong, the Gold Yewwy award. The event will also premiere director Chris Sun’s acclaimed comedy short film, Loophole, starring Hugh Parker (The Family Law, Elvis) and Libby Munro (Troppo, Wild Woman).
