Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards 2019

• Residential Landscape

Projects in this category are site-specific works of landscape architecture for private residential or public housing use. Entries in this category must be built. Private/public, high-rise or low-rise residential projects; new construction or renovation projects; historic preservation, rehabilitation, or restoration; communal roof-top gardens; private gardens in residential projects, etc.

• Commercial & Industrial Landscape

Projects in this category are any non-residential sites within commercial and industrial properties and the like. Entries in this category must be built. Commercial plazas, properties; including retail, office buildings, mixed-use development; historic preservation, conservation; Industry building, infrastructure, shipyards; abandoned spaces, brownfield sites, etc.

• Hotel & Resort Landscape

Projects in this category are sites within the hospitality sector that aim to enhance the guest experience while preserving and protecting the natural environment. Entries in this category must be built. Hotels and resorts; guest outdoor amenities; new construction or renovation projects; historic preservation, rehabilitation, or restoration of hospitality sites, etc.

• Civic & Institutional Landscape

Projects in this category are constructed urban landscape projects that are public in nature, and capture and contribute to the culture and amenity of the urban environment. Entries in this category must be built. All educational institutions/schools; research community; government buildings; museums, civic plazas, etc.

• Parks & Recreational Landscape

Projects in this category are constructed parks and open spaces that balance the demand for recreation, public open spaces and the environment, or conservation projects that restore habitats and enhance biodiversity. Entries in this category must be built. Regional parks or community parks, waterfront promenades, zoos, botanic gardens, arboretums, waterways, play spaces, habitat restoration or conservation projects, entertainment theme parks, etc.

• Analysis & Planning

Entries in this category recognises the wide scope and variety of other professional activities that landscape architecture entails. Entries in this category are not required to be built or implemented. Analysis; masterplans; urban, suburban, rural, or regional planning; strategic design and guiding policy documents; visual assessments for urban development; environmental planning; natural resources protection; historic preservation planning; etc.

All submissions shall be in digital format submitted into the online submission portal. No hardcopy submission is required.

Each project submission must contain the following three (3) folders:

• Project binder

• Electronic boards

• Images

Project binder

Project shall be submitted in the form of A4 project binder with the following conditions. Entries that do not fulfil these guidelines will not be considered for the awards.

1. The project binder allows a maximum of 20 pages. Each page shall be in A4 size.

2. All pages shall be in .pdf format.

3. Any materials included beyond the 20 pages will not be considered.

4. All work should be shrunk to fit A4 size.

5. Participants should not submit any material not directly related to the project for judging.

6. Materials in the binder must not reveal the names of the participants and/or associated landscape architects, firms, other designers, students, schools, or photographers.

Project binder in all of the Award Categories (except Analysis &

Planning) must contain the following items:

1. Executive Summary: Executive summary of the project including the location, area, construction cost, completion date and project intent. Briefly describe the concept behind the submission. In particular, identify aspects of the project that address environmental, social, and/or economic sustainability.

2. Site Plan: Include a simple illustrated site plan to give the jurors context of the entire project with its immediate surroundings.

3. Concept drawings: Include no more than eight (8) total schematic, conceptual, artist impressions or sketch drawings illustrating the thought process undertaken to arrive at the final design concept. Brief captions of no more than 40 words each may accompany each drawing.

The concept drawings and accompanying caption should be able to convincingly demonstrate the translation from concept drawings to implementation. There should be no more than two (2) drawings on each page view.

4. Photographs: Include not more than ten (10) total hi-res photographs of the project. Brief captions of no more than 40 words each are to be placed at the bottom of each image. There should be no more than two (2) photographs on each page view.

5. Plant List: Include a list of plants featured in the project.

Project binder in the Analysis & Planning Category must contain

the following items:

Electronic boards

To facilitate the printing of A1 boards for the exhibition at Awards Ceremony, participants are required to compose and include two (2) layout boards. Each board should be in original A1 size, in landscape format and in high resolution of 300 dpi.

Each board should sufficiently illustrate the process from design conceptualisation to implementation. It should also include the following:

1. Design intention of no more than 150 words

2. Any diagrams, schematic drawings, mapping, images etc. illustrating the design process

3. Photos of the completed project. Limited to no more five (5).

Images

All images/photographs used in the Project binder and Electronic boards must be placed in the Image folder (high resolution) in jpg, raw, or tiff format; technical drawings can be .pdf format.
