Sara Leishear, originally from Wichita, KS, relocated with her family to Frederick, MD, in 2001. Graduating with honors from Frederick Community College with two Associate Degrees, Sara embarked on her career in law enforcement, joining the Frederick Police Department in 2013.
Throughout her tenure, she has served in various capacities, including the Patrol Division, Outreach Unit, and as a member of the Crash Reconstruction Team. Currently holding the rank of a Corporal in the Special Operations Division, Sara oversees the Directed Patrol Team, Crisis Response Team, and FPD’s LEAD program, garnering national recognition for her innovative programs. Additionally, she contributes to the department as a member of the Drone Team, the Resiliency and Wellness Group, and as a Police Academy instructor.
Sara’s dedication has earned her three Life Saving Awards, two Unit Citations, and the esteemed 2023 Valor Award from the MD/DC/DE Moose Association. Notably, she recently represented the department alongside Chief Lando at a panel discussion on mental health and law enforcement on Capitol Hill.
Outside of work, Sara eagerly anticipates the arrival of her first child with her wife this summer, cherishing moments spent with loved ones.
