Garrett Whelan brings seven years of experience in the arboriculture industry. With the past year dedicated to his role as a Consulting Arborist, working closely with developers and municipal arborists. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry, specializing in forest health and protection, and a Certificate in Urban Tree Management. Garrett is ISA certified and holds qualifications in Tree Risk Assessment.

Shane Moore started his career with Ryzuk Geotechnical in the year 2000. In 2008, he and his partners purchased Ryzuk Geotechnical and Shane became the President and General Manager, helping to grow the company from only 12 staff members to a bustling business of 60! Bringing over 28 years of experience in geotechnical and hydrotechnical projects throughout British Columbia, Shane enjoys spending time in the field as well as in the office. While most of his work is centralized in BC, it has taken him as far abroad as Japan and Grand Turk.

Dr. Katie Cummer has a wide range of knowledge and expertise in the field of heritage conservation. Principal of Cummer Heritage Consulting (CHC), her expertise includes conservation planning, educational programming and heritage-focused research. She is an active researcher and writer, working throughout the province, conducting assessments of sites to facilitate informed decision-making, including Heritage Values Assessments, Statements of Significance and Heritage Conservation Plans. She has authored and co-authored a number of academic papers, books, book chapters and consultancy studies on topics related to heritage conservation including adaptive reuse, area conservation planning, the Historic Urban Landscape approach, interpretation, policy studies and recommendations on best practice for official Government use. She is a Professional Member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP), accredited for the Education, History and Planning specializations. She is also a Professional Member of The Hong Kong Institute of Architectural Conservationists (HKICON) and a former BCAHP Board Member (2018-2023) and BCAHP Vice President (2019-2023).

Adam Wharram is an Archaeologist and Team Lead at Stantec Consulting Ltd., a Canadian engineering and design firm stretching to 400 locations across 6 continents, and with 150 employees in two offices in the Greater Victoria area offering services within multiple business sectors including Environmental Services (including Archaeology), Engineering, Transportation Services, and Architecture to name a few.
Adam graduated from the University of Victoria’s Department of Anthropology in 2011 and has been with Stantec for over 10 years conducting a variety of studies across British Columbia. These studies have included surveys, excavations, and construction monitoring for residential properties, municipal projects on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, as well as mining and oil and gas projects throughout the province. Outside of Stantec, Adam held a temporary post at the Archaeology Branch of BC, 2011, and participated in a variety of archaeological projects through UVic and Camosun College including faunal analysis in China, inter-tidal excavation in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, and burial cairn survey in Victoria.

Since 2007, Kyle has been the Sustainable Development Coordinator for Westhills Land Corp, developers of the 517-acre master-planned Westhills community in Langford, BC. In addition to land-use planning, and environmental permitting, he has experience in corporate and community environmental impact assessments as well as renewable energy and utility infrastructure systems. Kyle holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Science from Royal Roads University and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

Nadine has recently been appointed Vice President, Transportation at WATT. This role includes managing and supporting a transportation team of thirty spread across five offices in Western Canada. Nadine’s 23 years of experience spans multiple provinces and clients from private developers to municipal and provincial government, in traffic operations as well as transportation planning and design. Nadine’s projects range from construction traffic control plans to site impact studies for new developments and network / community transportation master plans. As a senior transportation engineer, Nadine has worked on small to large scale planning operational assessment using Synchro, SIDRA, and VISUM to analyze traffic conditions and evaluate network options. She has experience with concept to detail designs for signage and pavement markings, adding lanes, and roundabouts as well as bicycle, sidewalk, and trail design. Nadine is also experienced in developing plans that integrate various user groups to create multi-modal networks that work for all users. She is experienced with traffic signal timing, signal coordination plans, railway crossing assessments, and parking.

Gregory Damant is a registered architect, a LEED accredited professional, and Principal of Cascadia Architects. Born in South Africa and raised in Victoria, Greg received his architectural degree and trained with firms in Vancouver and Victoria prior to founding Cascadia Architects with Peter Johannknecht in 2012.
Greg brings a holistic interest in design and construction to the practice of architecture, combining attention to urban-design, environmental sustainability and the craft of material and connection detailing.

Nathan is a civil engineer who leads the Land Development Division in McElhanney’s Victoria office. His experience ranges from small site servicing projects to large, multi-year, multi-phase developments within the CRD. He has also worked for municipalities as an owner’s engineer.

Ian is a civil engineer currently leading McElhanney’s Victoria office as Branch Manager. He has over 25 years of civil engineering experience, in both private sector consulting and public service environments. Ian has acted as project manager and the design engineer for many large development projects including Belmont Market, Royal Oak Middle School redevelopment and various phases within Bear Mountain. He was the former Manager of Capital Projects at the CRD where he managed multi-discipline, multi-stakeholder infrastructure projects.

Melissa is a Registered Landscape Architect with 15 years of project experience and has been with MDI Landscape Architects Inc. since 2007. Melissa’s educational background is in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Architectural Technology. Her experience working on a wide range of projects in a multidisciplinary environment allows her to communicate effectively at all stages of project development, and she brings her strong technical skills and horticultural knowledge to the design process.

Mark Holland RPP FCIP (he/him) is a Principal at Westplan Consulting Group with over thirty years of experience in urban planning and landscape architecture. Mark offers a unique and effective combination of private and public sector skill sets to lead projects from early visioning to policy development, to design and approvals and from financing to construction. A commitment to relentless innovation has driven Mark to challenge and push past the norms in all aspects of his work. He has won numerous awards and is credited with many innovations in Canadian Planning including sustainable communities, Agricultural Urbanism, creating urban vitality through Urban Magnets and many other progressive concepts.

​Mark has also made significant contributions as a planning educator. He began as an instructor in the University of British Columbia’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in the early 2000s. Since then, Mark has been a frequent speaker on topics related to planning and sustainability at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. Perhaps his greatest influence on planning education is the role he played in launching the Master of Community Planning degree at Vancouver Island University (VIU) in 2014. Ever since, he has played an instrumental role in the school, driven by a commitment to ensure that the next generation of planners is prepared to help communities create their future.

Mark is a Registered Professional Planner with the Canadian Institute of Planners and was inducted into the College of Fellows in 2022.
