Memberships

Membership Categories and Criteria:

Ordinary Membership:

  • Eligibility: Open to all doctors, whether actively practicing, retired, or medical students, without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, race, political affiliation, or nationality.
  • Application Process: Prospective members must complete an application form and submit it to the NMS Head Office.
  • Responsibilities: Ordinary members align with and support the aims and objectives of the Society.

Honorary Membership:

  • Criteria: Conferred upon individuals who have made outstanding contributions to NMS or healthcare in Namibia, as recognized by the Executive Board.
  • Nomination: Members can nominate candidates for honorary membership, subject to approval by the Executive Board through a voting process.

Membership Fees:

  • Structure: Fees are categorized based on professional status, with exemptions for honorary members.
  • Payment: Due annually by April 1st, with penalties for late payments.
  • Adjustments: Fee amendments are decided upon at the Annual General Meeting.

Membership Benefits:

  1. Representation: NMS provides a platform for members to have a voice in statutory bodies and ministerial committees related to healthcare governance.
  2. Professional Development: Access to Continuous Medical Education (CME) materials and opportunities to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

Termination and Resignation:

  • Automatic Termination: Membership ceases upon the member's death.
  • Resignation: Members may voluntarily resign with a 14-day written notice to the Executive Board.
  • Disciplinary Action: The Executive Board reserves the right to terminate membership for breaches of the Constitution or the Society's objectives, with the opportunity for the member to appeal through a disciplinary hearing.

Voting Rights:

  • Entitlement: All members in good standing possess full voting rights in all society meetings, ensuring democratic participation in decision-making processes.
