The Mid-Atlantic Association of Career Schools (Formerly PAPSA) is over 70 years old and continues to host one of the country's largest annual conferences for leaders and staff at technical colleges and career schools.

You are invited to join several hundred of your school colleagues, vendors, speakers, and other officials at MAACS' 2023 Annual Conference to be held July 25 & 26 at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The draft conference agenda has been released and can be viewed here: Conference Agenda 2023.pdf (maacs.us)

There will be two dozen sessions to choose from, plus keynote speeches, panel discussions, and other meetings to help school leaders operate their schools, stay in compliance, and successfully educate and place their students. We also have several receptions, meals, and networking events to help school leaders, staff, and vendors meet new peers or grow existing relationships.

Description/Content: How do we better improve financial literacy preparing our grads for successful repayment? Today, many students experience student loan debt and can find themselves in challenging situations during repayment. Personalized entrance and exit counseling can significantly promote non-default and ideally student loan borrowers have financial literacy education and repayment experience, however this can commonly not be the case. Typically, commitments and loan provisions are not fully understood. Tuition payment plans and institutional loans with in-school payments can promote real-time experience promoting out of school repayment. This interactive session promotes improving financial literacy for students promoting skin in the game, budgeting 101, peer mentors, reality town, on-campus promotional events, and other best practices currently in use across the country.

Description/Content: The U.S. Department of Education has been applying various and often-unwritten rules and policies over the last two decades related to changes in ownership, including required documentation and the financial responsibility standards applied to transactions. As part of its latest rulemaking process, ED has formalized many of these previously unwritten standards, which should provide greater transparency, but it also expanded the list of events that can constitute a change of ownership or control requiring approval for continued Title IV eligibility. Further, proposed changes to financial responsibility requirements could materially impact transaction structures and financing. This session will examine those important regulatory changes, as well as challenges and conditions encountered by schools in some recent merger and acquisition activities.
