Session 3: TSM in Ph: First Implementation Year Report and Analysis -
A recent EY (Ernst & Young Global Ltd.) survey ranked ESG not just as the top business risk for 2024 but also a top opportunity for the industry as ESG considerations become increasingly significant due to regulatory demands, financing standards, societal expectations, and legal challenges. Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) has been identified by Anthesis, an Australia-based global sustainability think tank as one of the main ESG standards and frameworks in the mining industry “that provide valuable guidance for navigating this complex and evolving landscape by standardizing measurement and best practices”. After officially adopting TSM in December 2017 in partnership with the Mining Association of Canada, the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines operating member-firms submitted this year their self-assessment reports on eight TSM Protocols and nearly half of these members subjected themselves to external verification. This session will examine closely the highlights of the consolidated self-ratings and individual externally validated results with the end in view of furthering the Chamber members’ strong performance areas, identifying areas for improvement, as well as finding ways to contribute to the enhancement of the country’s ESG policy environment.
